In light of the brutal murder of George Floyd by an American police officer, British Muslims for Secular Democracy stands in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and is committed to fighting all institutionalised racism against black and people, as well as anti-Black sentiment towards Black Muslims.
Our chair Yasmin Alihbai-Brown has written a column talking about George Floyd’s tragic death being an important historic moment in the struggle againt fascism which people of all races and classes must unite against.
John Sentamu, the most senior black leader in the Church of England said in a piece in The Guardian that whilst condemning violent protests, does support joining protests against the killing of George Floyd.
Meanwhile, the Jewish Council for Racial Equality has published a statement stressing that institutionalised racism is not limited to the US, and the Lammy Report which was commissioned by Former Prime Minister Theresa May, found that BAME communities have little trust in the justice system.
