British Muslims for Secular Democracy (bmsd) response to the violence in Gaza
28/12/2008British Muslims for Secular Democracy (bmsd) is deeply concerned at the ongoing violence in the Gaza and the ensuing loss of innocent life. bmsd strongly condemns the disproportionate attacks by the Israeli Armed Forces on the Gaza Strip, which is a land already starving and whose population faces immense problems leading their everyday lives. As a result of the aerial bombing, a large number of civilians have been killed and the Palestinian people are now facing an acute shortage of medical aid and food supplies which should be avoided at all costs.
bmsd also recognises the right of the Israeli people to live without fear of attacks from militants whether based in the Gaza strip or elsewhere.
Dr Shaaz Mahboob of bmsd said “We call upon both the Israeli Government and the Hamas leadership in Gaza to stop all hostilities without any further delay and to ensure the restoration of peace in the region. The stakeholders in the Middle East need to work collectively towards a sustainable peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the immediate cessation of violence in the Gaza strip is essential to achieving this objective”.
